DR. HERBERT MENDELSON
Born on October 18, 1933, Dr. Herbert Mendelson's journey exemplified determination, resilience, an unwavering commitment to excellence, and a zest for life. Known for his dedication and passion for orthopedics, Dr. Mendelson was a visionary in his field. Driven by a mechanical instinct, he had a knack for fixing things, which fueled his aspiration to establish himself, his practice, and his mission to provide compassionate, personal care in the medical world.
He discovered his passion for helping others early on, thanks to a high school football injury that opened his eyes to the potential of healing. Growing up in a challenging environment, he overcame countless obstacles and worked hard to pursue his dreams. Despite facing financial hardships, Dr. Mendelson persevered, putting himself through college and medical school. He attended Wayne State University and successfully pursued his medical degree at the esteemed University of Michigan. These formative years shaped his character, instilling within him an undeniable and profound sense of compassion brimming with a thirst for knowledge.
After completing his medical education, Dr. Mendelson embarked on his residency, training in various hospitals and clinics across Detroit. Honing his skills and gaining invaluable experience in orthopedic care, he became a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon. With his achievements in hand, he entered private practice, serving patients throughout the Metro Detroit area.
Dr. Mendelson eventually partnered with Dr. Richard Hall, a senior resident who shared his values that taking care of people was the most important aspect of their work. Their goal became to outwork each other and provide exceptional care wherever they went. In 1963, Dr. Mendelson and Dr. Hall co-founded Mendelson Orthopedics. Their shared vision of patient-centered care, compassion, and excellence in orthopedic surgery laid the foundation for a practice that would become synonymous with superior healthcare. Together, they established an environment where patients felt valued, respected, and cared for as individuals.
Beyond his medical achievements, Dr. Mendelson possessed a remarkable spirit. He was a joyful prankster, endlessly bringing laughter and happiness into the lives of those around him. Throughout his life, Dr. Mendelson remained curious, energetic, and perpetually eager to learn. He never stopped reading medical journals and expanding his knowledge. His passion for medicine extended beyond his professional life, as he was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Whether through a lighthearted joke or lending a helping hand in fixing a broken car or a leaky pipe, he exemplified the essence of selflessness for his family, friends, and community.
